Wave scattering in one dimension with absorption

چکیده
Wave scattering is analyzed in a one-dimensional nonconservative medium governed by the generalized Schrödinger equation dc/dx1kc5@ ikP(x) 1Q(x)#c , where P(x) and Q(x) are real, integrable potentials with finite first moments. Various properties of the scattering solutions are obtained. The corresponding scattering matrix is analyzed, and its small-k and large-k asymptotics are established. The bound states, which correspond to the poles of the transmission coefficient in the upper-half complex plane, are studied in detail. When the medium is not purely absorptive, i.e., unless P(x)<0, it is shown that there may be bound states at complex energies, degenerate bound states, and singularities of the transmission coefficient imbedded in the continuous spectrum. Some explicit examples are provided illustrating the theory. © 1998 American Institute of Physics. @S0022-2488~98!01503-5#

Investigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers
In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...
متن کاملSimulation of Surface Plasmon Excitation in a Plasmonic Nano-Wire Using Surface Integral Equations
In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...
متن کاملLong range scattering for the Wave - Schrödinger system with large wave data and small Schrödinger data
We study the theory of scattering for the Wave-Schrödinger system with Yukawa type coupling in space dimension 3. We prove in particular the existence of modified wave operators for that system with no size restriction on the wave data in the framework of a direct method which requires smallness of the Schrödinger data, and we determine the asymptotic behaviour in time of solutions in the range...
متن کاملA Computer Modeling of Mie-Scattering by Spherical Droplets Within the Atmosphere
The Earth’s atmosphere is an environment replete with particles of differ-ent sizes with various refractive indices which affect the light radiation traveling through it. The Mie scattering theory is one of the well-known light scattering techniques ap-plicable to modeling of electromagnetic scattering from tiny atmospheric particles or aerosols floating in the air or within the clouds. In this...
متن کاملCoherent perfect absorption in one-sided reflectionless media
In optical experiments one-sided reflectionless (ORL) and coherent perfect absorption (CPA) are unusual scattering properties yet fascinating for their fundamental aspects and for their practical interest. Although these two concepts have so far remained separated from each other, we prove that the two phenomena are indeed strictly connected. We show that a CPA-ORL connection exists between pai...
